WAL BRITTON
Managing Director
Accounts Enforcement

Wal was Chief Photographer for the Auckland Sun, a morning newspaper which Brierley Investments Ltd folded in 1989. At this time there were few newspaper jobs for him or the other eight on the Auckland Star or NZ Herald photographers. So Wal offered to collect as much of the $1,200,000 advertising accounts owed to the Sun as he could.

At this time Brierley Ltd had a shelf company, Accounts Enforcement Ltd, which their newspapers used to send out overdue accounts letters from. AEL was then set up as a fully operating debt collection company run by Wal.

AEL successfully convinced other companies to use them to collect debt as well. In 1992 Brierleys divest themselves of AEL, and Wal then purchased the company.
